PSAP Technology
Multimedia PSAP
Multimedia readiness means network, call-handling software, recording, staffing, accessibility processes and policy all line up. A PSAP is not multimedia-ready just because it has an IP connection.

What it does
A multimedia PSAP can receive and manage more than ordinary voice, including text, video and emergency data where supported.
It is the PSAP-side capability needed to realize richer NG112 emergency sessions.
How it works
- Receives multiple media streams and data objects.
- Presents them in an operational interface.
- Supports transfer, recording and fallback across media types.
Key interfaces and protocols
- SIP/SDP
- RTT
- Video

Common failure modes
- Text or video cannot be transferred.
- Call taker screens become cluttered.
- Recording misses a media channel.
- Fallback behavior is not trained.
Implementation considerations
- Design around call taker cognitive load.
- Start with the highest-value media use cases.
- Measure end-to-end, not just feature checkboxes.
