VoLTE Emergency Calling
Voice over LTE
As circuit-switched voice retires, VoLTE emergency behavior becomes a public-safety dependency. Emergency support, device compatibility, roaming and fallback cannot be assumed uniformly across Europe.
What it does
VoLTE emergency calling uses LTE access and IMS session control to place emergency calls over 4G networks.
VoLTE can be a primary mobile access path feeding emergency sessions toward national 112 systems.
How it works
- The handset places an emergency call over LTE using IMS procedures.
- Network and device support determine emergency capability.
- Location may be delivered through mobile network, handset, AML or next-generation paths.
